Rideshare
( documents • site API • permissions • data structure • database • RSS API • blah blah )
Let's create a ride share API.
- An open Rideshare database.
- A Rideshare site API for all the participating car sharing sites and
- A Rideshare RSS API for all sorts of websites.
Imagine a "lifts to trento" box on your homepage.
This wiki space was chosen because it's open, available under a free license and, well, Morgan is a laid back Ozzie. In the future we'll probably have to move it elsewhere though, somehow Crash at Mine doesn't seem appropriate for a ridshare system ;)

I think it would be great to learn from past failures. There is a very interesting paper titled "Pilot Tests of Dynamic Ridesharing" which documents 3 failures: "I developed the Ride Now software systems, and I conducted or was closely involved in three pilot tests of the Ride Now system".
Also read the very interesting and reasonable paper by Paul Resnick: Impersonal SocioTechnical Capital and the scenario document (pdf).
